Young Luxembourg Cyclists at ETEC: Learning, Deciding, Taking Responsibility
Lukas, Hannah, Anaïs and Misch – selected and trained by Sécurité Routière, the Grand Ducal Police and the Luxembourg Cycling Federation (FSCL) – proudly represented Luxembourg at the European Traffic Education Contest (ETEC) in Belgrade on 28 September. The national selection was organised by the ACL together with these partners on the karting track in Mondercange.
Created in 1986 by the FIA, the ETEC brings together young road users aged 10 to 12 from across Europe. Its goal is to promote safe and responsible behaviour on the road through fun and engaging activities, while strengthening the cycling skills and awareness of young participants.
The Luxembourg team performed very well in both the theoretical and practical challenges, finishing 16th overall. The “labyrinth” course proved particularly demanding, requiring the children to make their own decisions in simulated traffic situations – a valuable exercise in autonomy and real-world responsibility.
The experience highlights how important it is to start road safety education at an early age, helping children to grow into responsible and confident road users.
The ACL warmly congratulates the four participants and thanks all national partners for their valuable support. Together, we continue to promote safe and responsible mobility for the next generation.
And of course, Luxembourg will proudly take part again in the 2026 edition of the contest!
